About the College of Medicine at Nineveh

The Nineveh College of Medicine (NCoM) was established by a presidential decree in 2001 as the second medical college among the 22 colleges affiliated with the University of Mosul (UoM). Its establishment was in response to the growing need for qualified doctors in the governorate due to urban expansion, population growth in the city and its suburbs, and the increasing demand for medical services.

Following the official announcement of the establishment of Nineveh University (NU) in February 2014, the Nineveh College of Medicine and the College of Electronic Engineering were transferred from the University of Mosul to become affiliated with Nineveh University. Thus, the newly established university now includes two prestigious and well-equipped colleges.

Infrastructure and Facilities

The college covers an area exceeding 10,000 square meters, including 8 modern laboratories, 4 lecture halls, over 70 rooms for academic staff, a conference center, and a medical consultation office. Practical steps to implement problem-based learning began in 2018, and we continue to build and develop for the sake of our dear students.

Education and Academic Development

The college adopts a traditional teaching model that includes three years of basic sciences followed by three years of clinical training. By 2014, the number of graduates exceeded 300 doctors, most of whom work in the Ministry of Health, with some pursuing postgraduate studies or training to become future academic staff members.

Beginning and Establishment

The Nineveh College of Medicine began its activities in 2002 within the Mosul College of Medicine with limited space. In 2004, the departments of Biochemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology were established, followed by the departments of Medicine and Surgery in 2006. Education started with 75 students and increased to 120 by 2014, adopting traditional medical curricula.

We aim for the Nineveh College of Medicine at Nineveh University to be among the globally leading colleges in medical education by offering distinguished academic programs, adopting the highest standards of academic quality, and providing an innovative educational environment that combines theoretical knowledge with advanced practical training.

At the Nineveh College of Medicine, we strive to graduate doctors with solid scientific competence, advanced clinical skills, and high professional ethics. We prepare them to effectively diagnose and treat common diseases in their community and contribute to improving the healthcare system through purposeful medical research that addresses local health challenges and enhances public health.

The College of Medicine was established to be a beacon of knowledge in Nineveh Governorate, supplying Iraqi society with competent doctors equipped with knowledge and expertise, qualified to provide distinguished healthcare based on professional and humanitarian ethics, and built on a foundation of sound scientific thinking and continuous research.
