A researcher from the College of Medicine at the University of Nineveh presents an advanced molecular study on the causes of acute gastroenteritis in children

On Monday, August 31, 2026, researcher Zeina Salem Aoufi Muhammad from the College of Medicine at the University of Nineveh defended her doctoral dissertation titled:

“An Advanced Molecular Study of the Causes of Acute Gastroenteritis in Children in the City of Mosul”

The thesis addressed the molecular characterization of viral and bacterial pathogens, as well as the study of the gut microbiome and antibiotic resistance genes in children under the age of five, using modern diagnostic and molecular techniques.

The thesis defense committee consisted of Professor Dr. Hayam Adel Ibrahim Al-Ta’i as chair, with Assistant Professor Dr. Amer Abdullah Korial, Assistant Professor Dr. Rogan Ghanem Muhammad Ayoub, Assistant Professor Dr. Aus Ibrahim Suleiman Nader, and Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Mahmoud Taha, under the supervision and with the participation of Professor Dr. Anmar Ahmed Daoud Al-Ta’i.
