On April 12, the University Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Medicine – University of Nineveh held an awareness-raising lecture titled: “The Sanctity of Blood in Religions… A Comprehensive Perspective on Promoting a Culture of Peace and Tolerance” Under the slogan: “The Sanctity of Blood Between Legislation and Ethics” The lecture was delivered by Ms. Reem Salem Mutaib, head of the University’s Peacebuilding and Peaceful Coexistence Unit. She addressed the concept of the sanctity of blood in all Abrahamic religions, explained Iraqi law’s stance on criminalizing murder, and highlighted societal responsibilities in spreading a culture of tolerance and promoting the values of peace. The lecture saw a large turnout and significant engagement from the audience, through discussions and questions, particularly regarding legal and social aspects. This event is part of the Psychological Counseling Unit’s efforts to provide awareness programs that serve students and staff and promote community awareness.
