سلسلة عمداء كلية الطب

The Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Nineveh Prof. Dr. Fares Bakr Al-Sawaf

Professor Dr. Fares Al-Sawaf was born on February 23, 1955. He graduated from the College of Medicine at the University of Mosul in 1979, then went on to specialize in pediatrics, earning a Diploma in Child Health (DCH) from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1987, followed by membership in the Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom (MRCP UK) in 1988.

His academic career spanned from teaching pediatrics to becoming a professor, during which he held a number of academic and administrative positions, including chairing the Department of Pediatrics, supervising graduate students and candidates for the Iraqi and Arab board exams, in addition to his work as a pediatric consultant.

In 2007, he assumed the deanship of the Nineveh College of Medicine and continued to lead it for seven years, until 2014—a period that marked an important phase in the college’s consolidation and academic development.

Today, 25 years after the college was founded, we do not simply count the years in numbers; rather, we remember the men who shouldered the responsibility of this institution, each of whom left his mark on a chapter of its history.

25 years of service… and a journey chronicled by professors and generations whose names will forever remain part of the Faculty of Medicine’s history
