In a landmark academic event held for the first time in the city of Mosul, the College of Medicine at the University of Nineveh hosted a meeting of the Committee of Deans of Medical Schools in Iraq, coinciding with the college’s celebrations of its silver jubilee and the 25th anniversary of its founding. The meeting was convened at the invitation of the Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Nineveh, Assistant Professor Dr. Mu’min Junaid al-Dabouni, with the participation of the deans of Iraqi medical schools, bringing together the leaders of medical education in Iraq around one table at the University of Nineveh’s College of Medicine. The meeting was chaired by Professor Dr. Amin Abdul-Hassan Al-Alwani, Chair of the Committee of Deans of Medical Schools in Iraq and Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad. During the meeting, participants discussed a number of academic and scientific issues related to the progress of medical schools, the development of medical education, and the improvement of its outcomes in Iraq, in addition to exchanging views and experiences regarding the next phase. The meeting holds special significance as it coincides with the Silver Jubilee of the College of Medicine at the University of Nineveh; thus, the celebration of a quarter-century of the college’s history is coupled with an event that looks toward the future of medical education in Iraq.
